Before planting
- Allow about 1–1.5 m for the species and remember that compact cultivars can stay much smaller.
- Choose moist but well-drained soil in full sun or light shade.
- Japanese spiraea is invasive in parts of eastern North America. Outside its native range, check local planting guidance and consider a suitable non-invasive alternative.
