Before planting

  • Acidic soil is essential; strongly alkaline or lime-rich ground is unsuitable.
  • The shallow roots must not dry out, especially while the shrub is establishing.
  • All plant material is harmful if eaten, so restrict access and dispose of prunings safely.

Why choose it

  • Provides dense evergreen structure throughout the year.
  • Produces large purple-lilac flower clusters in late spring.
  • Combines a substantial garden presence with strong winter hardiness.

Care

  • Mulch with suitable organic material while keeping it clear of the stems.
  • Keep the soil evenly moist but not waterlogged.
  • Prune minimally, removing only damaged growth or shaping lightly after flowering.
